Discussion:
Yamaha P60 Digital Piano

I recently purchased a Yamaha P60 to do basic tracks, etc. I'm actually alot
happier with it than I thought I would be. Of course... now that I'm happy I
have a problem. :) For whatever reason C#3 through C4 will occassionally go
into this weird double-note mode where C#3 through F#3 will play a very
non-harmonious double key and the same scale starts over with G3 through C4.

I'm not hitting any of the modifier keys to get this to occur... it just
happens right in the middle of playing. I've tested the outlet voltage,
turned it on and off, unplugged it for a day, etc. Eventually it will switch
back to normal then after a few days blammo... back again. When it's doing
this the demos are fine so I'm assuming it's not in the sample chips but
maybe a mechanical sensor failing.

Two questions:

1) Does anyone have a good contact (email or phone etc) for Yamaha support?
2) The P120's, etc have a reset feature as noted in the Yamaha FAQs, there
is no mention of a reset for the P60, anyone know of a reset sequence?

Thanks!

Charles

For a P-100 the proceedure for reset is:
Hold down the midi button while powering on.

If you didn't get a manual with your p-60, you might can find a
downloadable manual online. Search musiciansfriend

http://www.musiciansfriend.com

If they have that model in their catalog, chances are you candownload a
manual for free.

Dear Charles,
Dear Joe,

the P-60 manual can also be found via google, using the search
sentence "yamaha p-60+reset+sequence".
Alas it does not explicitly mention any "reset feature" or "panic
sequence" one could easily execute by just pressing a single button,
which obviously does not exist on the keyboard.

The first URL links to a file called "P60E1.pdf":

As far as I understood your error, you may have had the "Two
Voices/dual mode" (page 20) occuring without having it switched on
deliberately, which may be a strange machine error I've never heard
of yet - but such a machine failure could still be possible, since
commands like these are held in an internal software buffer.

Did you already try this?
(don't know if it works, since I don't have access to that piano):

"While holding down the [VOICE] button, press one of the C1 - A1
keys."

(you may have to press one of the specific keys which show the
doubling you described, since AFAIK the doubled octave can be set
freely and that's only the manual's example)

All possible MIDI and machine commands are also listed on page 31
ff. of the above manual.
